Push back racking is a form of pallet storage racking that allows you to stack your pallets from 2 to 6 layers deep on either side, increasing storage density without adding complexity to your warehouse. The mechanism is fairly simple. Each rack system contains a pair of inclined rails and a series of nested platforms riding on these rails. The platforms nest one on top of the other, so when you add your first pallet to the rail, it sits on the topmost platform.
When adding another pallet to the rail, the operator simply pushes the first pallet back and drops the pallet on the next nested platform. The same process is repeated for the subsequent platforms until the actual rail is reached, on which lays the final pallet. To remove items, the operator simply uses a lift to remove the closest pallet. Because the rails are on an incline, the remaining pallets simply slide forward to the front of the rack.
Push back racking makes it easy to increase storage density without complicated automated loading systems. Using only simple mechanics and the power of gravity, push back racking lets you store inventory in rows from 2-6 layers deep on either side of an aisle. This allows you to double or even triple your storage efficiency as compared to traditional pallet racks.
